Manchin Won't Rule Out Third-Party Run

Senator Suspects No Labels Behind Christie Rumor

Representative Phillips: 'A Historic Disaster'

Senator Joe Manchin, a longtime ally of the No Labels movement, is not ruling out the possibility of running as a third-party presidential candidate in 2024. Manchin, a Democrat from West Virginia, made the comments at an event in his home state.

Manchin also suspects that No Labels had a hand in a rumor that he and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie had discussed teaming up for a third-party run. The rumor surfaced after Manchin and Christie were spotted having dinner together in Washington, D.C., the night before the 2020 presidential election.

Representative Dean Phillips, a Democrat from Minnesota, said that he believes a Manchin-Christie ticket would be "a historic disaster." Phillips said that Manchin is "out of touch with the vast majority of Americans" and that Christie is "a toxic figure who would drive away voters."

No Labels is a centrist organization that has been critical of both major political parties. The group has endorsed Manchin in the past and has run ads supporting his candidacy.
